Common myths and misconceptions

  • Causes of Infertility
    • Female factors (ovulatory disorders, uterine factors, tubal factors)
      1. Ovulatory Disorders
        • Anovulation: This occurs when a woman doesn't ovulate regularly or at all.
        • Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): A hormonal imbalance that can lead to irregular or absent periods, excess hair growth, and weight gain.
        • Premature Ovarian Failure (POF): This condition occurs when a woman's ovaries stop functioning normally before age 40, leading to menopause.
        • Hyperprolactinemia: Elevated levels of prolactin, a hormone that stimulates milk production, can interfere with ovulation.
      2. Uterine Factors
        • Endometriosis: A condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, often causing pain, heavy bleeding, and infertility.
        • Uterine Fibroids: Noncancerous growths in the uterus that can affect fertility, especially if they distort the uterine cavity.
        • Uterine Malformations: Congenital abnormalities in the shape or structure of the uterus.
      3. Tubal Factors
        • Blocked Fallopian Tubes: Obstructions in the fallopian tubes can prevent the egg from meeting the sperm.
        • Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID): An infection that can damage the fallopian tubes and uterus.
        • Endometriosis: As mentioned earlier, endometriosis can also cause scarring and damage to the fallopian tubes.

It's important to note that these are just some of the potential female factors contributing to infertility. A comprehensive evaluation by a fertility specialist can help identify the underlying cause and recommend appropriate treatment options.

    • Male factors (sperm count and quality, hormonal imbalances, ejaculation disorders)
    • Other factors (age, lifestyle, medical conditions, medications)
